Stupid drunk drivers......

my house is at the end of a fairly busy street that dead ends in our front yard and then takes up again a few houses down.

i was trying to set up some email stuff for a client tonight around 10:30 when i heard some police sirens.

i stood up and looked out my window to see a pair of headlights quickly coming towards my house with the police behind them.

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for your well wishes. Everything is back to normal and you can't even tell what happened now. I was a bit pissed to see the woman who was arrested come and get her car the next morning but other than that I'm happy with the way everything turned out. I would put up a fence or rocks or something but that would look like a turd in a punchbole with our small front yard that is perfectly flat. Truth be told, if someone would miss the turn and hit our house it would hit the living room area which had a nice big concrete porch in front of it that would stop it before it would actually hit the house.

Sorry for the lady who's husband was killed right after you got pregnant. I apologize for not remembering your name off the top of my head but I do feel very sorry for you and all you had to go through.

Hey JWS, tell you what, get legally drunk and go play some baseball. Try to take a 95 mph fastball when you're over the limit and see how you do. Wanna know what the difference is? If you miss your swing on the fastball nobody dies. If some kid runs out in front of you and you delay for half a second because you've been drinking that kid could die. True, while old people and sleepy people are dangers as well, so are idiotic drunks who think they can drive better after they've had a few drinks and are legally drunk. The morons who do that deserve all the legal troubles they get and should be happy that's all they get.

As for myself, I can honestly say I have never been behind the wheel after having even one single drink. I've walked a bit to a convenience store and a few other places and been barely able to keep my balance as well as been driven places when intoxicated (that's actually kind of fun and not unlike an amusement park ride) but even though numerous people may have certain remarks regarding my intelligence I'd have to be a total moron to think I could drive if I was even the least bit intoxicated.

Oh yeah, just for the record, I don't drink at all anymore. I wouldn't drink that often but when I did I had problems stopping. Just to save myself (as well as the heartache that comes with all of that to loved ones) I stopped drinking all together and have been totally dry since this spring.

What Do You Like to Collect

over the years i have had several collections, ranging from louisiana bottles, (this collection was stolen); books relating to la.

which i donated to a library; books by or about jws, which i gave to another library; a stamp collection, which is at my sister's house.

my florida related stamps are now on exhibit at the state library of florida.

I was trying to set up some email stuff for a client tonight around 10:30 when I heard some police sirens. I stood up and looked out my window to see a pair of headlights quickly coming towards my house with the police behind them. Luckily we didn't have the Saturn parked in front of the house tonight because we parked in the driveway after going to the store to get some water for Fluffy (my pet fish) about an hour earlier. That was good because the person who was being chased by the police didn't bother slowing when she tried to turn. For a while tonight there was a late 80's sedan parked in my front yard and there are still tire tracks left. Once she got stuck she realized there was nothing left to do and gave up. The police arrested her, got the car out of my front yard, and left. Just kind of freaky and scared the crap out of me because the entire time we've lived here having a car hit our house has always been a big fear of mine.

Now, if you'll pardon me, I have to go change my underwear.

I voted today for the first time

yes -- i shared in the mid-term american elections.

and my polling place was a big old lutheran church -- yes, right there where babylon the great plays the whore to the politicians!!

I just got back from voting for the first time as well. Most of it was just local except for congressman. Just about all my votes were just democrats except for the congressman because even though the republican is scary, he's less frightening than the democrat.

My First Rock Concert....

now in my 40's i went to my first and most probably last rock concert last night.

i took the wife and kids (if you can still call them that with the youngest taller than me) to see the "motor city madman....ted nugent.

i guess that i am just not the rock and roll type.

The nightclub shows are usually the best, unless it's somebody like U2.

The bigger the U2 show the better. I didn't get to see them on their Zoo TV tour but saw them once on the Pop Mart tour when they were playing huge football stadiums (as in around 40,000-60,000 people) and twice on the last tour. The last one was in mid sized arenas (~20,000 people) where basketball teams usually play. They had a basic stage and heart shaped walkway with around 300 people in the middle of it (I was in the middle twice, Lexington and St. Louis). It was kind of neat in that they were more into the music and that's about it. The Pop Mart tour you really felt like you got every dollar worth of your ticket though. I paid more for that concert but would gladly do it again. They had the biggest video screen in the world at the time, a huge lemmon shaped disco ball that they came out of for the encore, a long walk way out into the audience, and more lights and other effects than I've ever seen in my life. A lot of people made fun of all the excesses of that tour but even though I absolutely love U2 and their music they put on a just unbelievable show/experience if you accept is that and not just a concert. I may have had more fun at other concerts but never have I been as impressed as I was with what I saw that night, especially since I was only about 30 feet from the center of the stage and in the middle of the floor. It was just any amazing experience.

Oh yeah, just to make things even better, I met my wife that night too! I really should have just bought a lottery ticket that night because I would have won and that's the only thing that could have made the whole experience even better.

Condemned halls are fun.

i atended a condemned kingdom hall for a long time as a child, it looked like a shack where you would raise chickens.. i was condemned at lest four times that i know of for being so unsightly in the area.

the elders at the time would say we will have a weed digging gathering saturday can the sisters bring some food, and refreshments, so i remember going and one or two old brothers would show up and pull about fifteen weeds and go home.

what a joke, to grow up with.

what to tell mommy

for any of you that faded away from jws without getting df'd or da'd, what excuse did you give your close (jw) family members for why you stopped attending meetings?

did you let on that you were having doubts about the organization, did you pretend to be just really spiritually weak, or were you just very vague, saying you were really busy or having heath problems, etc?

i ask because my mom is forever on my case about attending meetings.

Be careful what you say to your mother. A guy who I used to be good friends with and his wife expressed some doubts to his mother-in-law about the authenticity of the bible after they had started to do the fade bit. Next thing they knew elders were staking out their house to talk to them and they ended up getting DF'd for apostacy. His wife's mother then maintained the good little JW mommy position and promptly shunner her own daughter. Her brother told his small children that they couldn't see aunt Amy anymore because she doesn't love Jehovah anymore. All this because she expressed doubt about the authenticity of the bible.

How did it all turn out?

Wife bloomed like a flower after getting disfellowshipped. She already had a good job (massage therapist making pretty good money) and she started going to college on the side in hopes of getting an even better one than she had doing enviromental work. Her dad never was a JW and didn't really like them, now likes them even less. She's still in the same position with her brother and his kids but is much closer to her non-JW siblings than ever before. I haven't talked to her in a long time but expect only great things of her and what she's become.

Husband didn't do so well. He had a good job as a computer tech and actually got me into it and taught me a lot about it before this all started. With all the stress he couldn't perform very well at work and lost his job. Still wanting to work but not wanting anything stressful he took up delivering pizzas and getting high with co-workers after work. Last I heard he's now living with another former JW who delivers pizzas at the same place and shares the same dealers as my old friend. Instead of going to college or doing anything else to make something of their lives they're probably still making vague plans to be musicians playing their own version of rock music. I haven't talked to him since this summer because I just got tired of always being put off so he could go get high, including when we were supposed to go to a concert in another city (which is one of the few things in life I truly enjoy) and I had already bought my non-refundable ticket. Sorry, still just really bitter about that.

I've been to more concerts than I can count. Country, rock, rap, classical, I've been to them. Most all of them have been really great experiences and its very rare that I've had any problems with anythere. The only time I've even come close to having problems with anyone was at a 18+ Everclear show in Louisville, KY when some high school kids snuck in and were acting like they owned the place but that didn't last long and it was still one of the most enjoyable concerts I've ever been to.

As for who some of the absolute best artists I've ever seen - Everclear (2 times and backstage 1), Smashing Pumpkins (4 times and backstage 1), U2 (3 times and met Bono before 1), Weird Al Yankovic (1 time and I've never laughed so hard in my life, backstage after the show he was really nice) and front row at a Pearl Jam concert (2 times, only one was front row, the other was 10th).

Honorable mention goes to KISS and Elton John. I don't really like their music that much but I do have to hand it to them that they really know how to work the crowd and put on a good show.

Absolute worst was Nelly. The stage was pathetic, I've been to country concerts with more bass, and all it the entire was was Karoke night with the original singer doing the songs. Even though I didn't pay to go to that concert I still felt ripped off because I'll never be able to get my time back that I wasted there. Just for the record, I do like his songs that you hear on the radio but seeing him live was horrible.

Dishonorable mention goes to Tim McGraw. Decent show and everything but the night I saw him the sound was horrible. If it weren't for that it would have been a decent show.

my question is: do you really believe that the watchtower is behind this shutting down?

or is this just sensationalism or a form of persecution mania?.

I just noticed something else, why do you have your email blocked Nancee? Myself, its just so I won't get any more SPAM or put on any mailing lists. Why is yours blocked? What's the matter? Don't you want to get email that you never asked to start receiving in the first place? Rather annoying getting put on mailing lists when you don't want to be (even though you do have the option to get off of them) isn't it?
